Where to Go to Apply in Person...
- You must appear in person at the Probate Court of Butts County to submit your application, pay for the license, and have your picture taken. You must be domiciled (primary residence) in Butts County.
- You must be 21 years of age or older or at least 18 and have proof that you have completed basic training in the U. S. Armed Forces and that you are currently on active duty in the U. S. Armed Forces or that you have been honorably discharged from the U. S. Armed Forces.
What to bring...
- Proof of Residence. Applicants must furnish proof of Butts County residence on a photo ID such as a valid Georgia Driver's License, a State of Georgia ID Card or Military ID. If you are a Non-US citizen you must furnish a Resident Alien ID card or other proof of lawful admission as a permanent resident in the United States.
- Payment. The fee for a new weapons carry license is $78.25; a renewal is $30.00; and a replacement license is $6.00 - The Court accepts cash, money order or card. Once an application has been submitted for processing the Court will not issue any refunds.
Fingerprinting and Background Check...
After the applicant has filled out the necessary forms with the Probate Office it is required that new applicants immediately be fingerprinted. Background checks are consented to with the Probate Office and are run on both new and renewal applications each time the individual applies. The Butts County Probate Court runs the background checks and review any findings relating to an applicant’s eligibility. Upon the receipt of the information, the court will notify the applicant regarding the eligibility/issuance of his/her license if needed.

- At the time of application you must advise the court staff whether you want your license mailed to the address appearing on the license or whether you will pick your license up at the Probate Court.
